Now entering her 11th season, Danita Fox is the longest
serving head coach in MU women's swimming history.
In October of 1997, Mansfield University hired Danita Fox
to take over the reigns of the Mountaineer swimming and diving program.
Fox led MU to a 28th place finish at the 1999 NCAA Division II National
Championships behind Candace Cipolla’s performance in the 100 and 200-meter
backstroke. It was the Mounties second-best finish ever at the national
championships.
Fox brought a wealth of experience to MU, having successfully competed at the
NCAA Division I level as well as serving as a head coach for both NCAA Division
II and top amateur programs. With more than 15 years of successful coaching
experience at the regional and national levels, Fox is certified as a Level III
coach by the American Swim Coaches Association. She has produced four-national
level swimmers in her career.
Prior to her MU service, Fox served as the head coach of
the YMCA Dynamo Swim Team in Burlington, VT from 1991-97 where she developed two
junior national qualifiers and many state and regional champions as well as
directing the master’s program.
Fox was the head swimming coach at NCAA Division II St. Michael’s College in
Colchester, VT from 1985-91 where she posted winning records as the Purple
Knights’ men’s and women’s head coach.
A 1983 graduate of Ball State University with a degree in physical education,
Fox was a four-year member of Cardinal swim team where she contributed in the
butterfly and freestyle events. Her strongest individual placing was sixth in
the 50-butterfly at the conference championships her junior season.
Supportive of the community, Fox offers water aerobics classes and coaches a
local youth swim team. She is currently helping develop age group swimming in
the greater Mansfield area through swim lessons and coaching clinics.
Fox resides in Mansfield with her son, Ben, and daughter, Brittany.
